On November 8, 1940, at 2:30 p.m. the first service of the Poland Center Community Church was held at the "Little Red Schoolhouse" at the corner of Struthers Road and Route 224.

In September of 1952, a church building was begun at 6248 Struthers Road. The men and ladies of the congregation did all the work on the new building and completed it for a cost of about $8,000. The first service in the church was held on Christmas Eve, 1956.

The name of the church was changed to Gospel Baptist Church in 1982. In 1984 the church began a Christian school and purchased 10 acres of land on Clingan Road to build a new facility. The land was cleared and the first building begun that year on the Clingan Road property. The Struthers Road building was sold and the new building occupied in May, 1985. The new auditorium was begun in 1987 and dedicated in November of that same year - exactly 30 years after the Struthers Road building was dedicated.
